Gathering Hymn: Eagles Wings
You who dwell in the shelter of the Lord,who abide in his shadow for life,say to the Lord: `My refuge, my rock in whom I trust!` R/.. And I will raise you up eagle’s wings, bear you the breath of dawn,
make you to shine like the sun,
and hold you in the palm of his hand.
The snare of the fowler will never capture you,
and famine will bring you no fear;
under his wings your refuge,
his faithfulness your shield. R/.
You will not fear the terror of the night,
nor the arrow that flies by day;
though thousands fall about you,
near you it shall not come. R/.
For to his angels he’s given a command
to guard you in all of your ways;
upon their hands they will bear you up,
lest you dash your foot against a stone R/.
Presider: The grace and peace of God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
All: And also with you.

Opening Prayer
Loving God,
to whom mercy and forgiveness belong, hear our prayers behalf of Dan
whom you have called out of this world.
Because he put his hope and trust in you,
bring him safely home to heaven to enjoy your eternal reward.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
+ Liturgy of the Word
First Reading: Ecclesiastes 3:1-8, 14
For everything there is a season,
and a time for every matter under heaven;
a time to be born, and a time to die;
a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted;
a time to kill, and a time to heal;
a time to break down, and a time to build up;
a time to weep, and a time to laugh;
a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
a time to throw away stones,
and a time to gather stones together;
a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
a time to seek, and a time to lose;
a time to keep, and a time to throw away;
a time to tear and a time to sew;
a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
a time to love, and a time to hate;
a time for war, and a time for peace.
I know that whatever God does endures forever.
The Word of the Lord.
Response: Crimmond
The Lord’s my shepherd, I’ll not want.
He makes me down to lie in pastures green, he leadeth me the quiet waters by.
My soul he doth restore again;
and me to walk doth make within the paths of righteousness,
ev’n for his own name’s sake.
Ye, though I walk in death’s dark vale,
yet will I fear none ill;
for thou art with me; and they rod and staff me comfort still.
My table thou hast furnished
in presence of my foes;
my head thou dost with oil anoint,
and my cup overflows.
Goodness and mercy all my life shall surely follow me:
and in God’s house for evermore my dwelling place shall be.
Scottish Psalter 1650
Gospel: Matthew 5:1-12
Jesus saw the crowds and went up a hill, where he sat down. His disciples gathered around him, and he began to teach them:
Happy are those who know they are spiritually poor;
the Kingdom of heaven belongs to them!
Happy are those who mourn;
God will comfort them!
Happy are those who are humble;
they will receive what God has promised!
Happy are those whose greatest desire is to do what God requires;
God will satisfy them fully!
Happy are those who are merciful to others;
God will be merciful to them!
Happy are the pure in heart;
they will see God!
Happy are those who work for peace;
God will call them his children!
Happy are those who are persecuted because they do what God requires;
the Kingdom of heaven belongs to them.
Happy are you when people insult you
and persecute you and tell all kinds of evil against you because you are my followers.
Be happy and glad, for a great reward is kept for you in heaven.
