Chong, Hong Leong (Clement)

Dr. CHONG Hong Leong (Clement)

1943  to  2011

Terranorra, N.S.W.

Aged 68 years

Beloved husband and soul mate of WAI NGOH (Helen), Devoted father to KWONG & KIM, Loving father-in-law to TIFFANY & CHALIIYA, Doting grandfather to ETHAN & CLAIRE, Uncle and mentor to STEVEN and KELVIN Champion for the Chong family, Caring son-in-law to Aunty Wonderful brother-in-law to DAVID A trusted and great friend to many… who will be dearly missed. Relatives and friends were invited to attend the  funeral  on Tuesday, 20 Dec 2011 at Melaleuca Station Memorial Gardens, 9394 Tweed Valley Way, Chinderah, Tweed Heads

On the morning of 8-12-11, we bid farewell to my brother-in-law (BIL) after a hard fought battle with his illness over the last 2-3 years and especially the last year… he had fought the good fight, all the while with character, strength, humility, acceptance and grace… right to the very end. He passed away peacefully sometime in the early hours of this morning in his sleep.

It had not been an easy road for BIL and especially for sis, Wai Ngoh, Kwong, Kim and the family.  He had the best care anyone could ask for - his carer was his soul mate and devoted wife. She not only provided what he needed for his care, support and well-being; she anticipated his needs and wishes so as to enable him to experience life to the fullest even in his last weeks and months.

Today, we have lost a dear and wonderful friend… BIL brushed each of our lives in his unique and special way. He has left his imprint which inspires each of us to be a better person, to look out for one another in living a rich and fulfilling life. BIL was someone who always looked for the best in others and did what he could to help make that difference.

We draw comfort in knowing that he is in a better place and no longer having to battle against his illness. We will cherish the sweet memories and the happy times. Indeed, we will celebrate his life - his service to his profession, his care for his patients and the legacy he has left us - he lived a rich, honourable and fulfilling life.

May you rest in peace forever, BIL

David and Cheng Hui

I have known Dr. HL Chong for more years than I can count. I came home to Malaysia in 1980 after my studies in England and met him and since then he has been treating me like a brother. He has been my source of encouragement. I have seen him helping people in need whether they request for his help for the hea;th of another is worth his sacrifices. Seeing him living a simple and down to earth lifestyle has changed my very own lifestyle as well. I have learnt well from him and am sad that he has left us so soon. Two quotes would sum out what Dr Chong have thought me.

You should respect each other and refrain from disputes; you should not, like water and oil, repel each other, but should, like milk and water, mingle together.   --  Buddha (B.C.E 568-488)

The greatest degree of inner tranquility comes from the development of love and compassion. The more we care for the happiness of others, the greater is our own sense of well-being.   -- The Dalai Lama

Our heartfelt sincere condolences to Wai Ngoh; his sons; daughters-in-law; grandchilderen; nephews and nieces; relatives and friends.
